Letters To Editor

Thanks for postal Santa Claus

To the editor:

My wife had been up until 2:30 in the morning finishing her Christmas baking, so I was letting her sleep. I was killing time sitting at my computer checking emails and watching the cold drizzle outside.

We were expecting company so I wasn't too surprised when I heard a car door slam. I went to the door and was surprised to see someone from the Post Office coming up my steps with a package in his hand.

This was a very special gift from my mother-in-law in Arkansas and had been mailed via Priority Mail on Dec. 19. In the deluge of packages that goes a the postal service at this time of year it must have been delayed.

But this was Christmas morning - when the civilized world slows down a moment and takes a deep breath. With obvious surprise in my voice I said, “I didn't expect to see anyone from the Post Office on Christmas!”

He replied that he had gone in and was looking for packages that might be Christmas gifts and was delivering them. This had to be one of the kindest, most generous acts that I have witnessed this season.

Please accept this letter as a personal “Thank You” to that unnamed Santa who helped to brighten several Christmas mornings with his unselfish act.

Charles Massingale
