County rallying to fight methamphetamine abuse
To the editor:
We have been encouraged to see the recent concern shown by residents of White County about the increased methamphetamine usage by our young people. Officer Jesse Hambrick, a narcotics agent with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, will give a seminar on Friday, Dec. 16 at the Cleveland United Methodist Church from 1-4 p.m. for interested people who want to start a Meth Task Force in White County. There have been quite a few people in White County besides myself who have drug addiction in their family and who want to do something to stop the usage of this drug. Statistics show that children as young as eight years of age are trying meth; it can be found everywhere in White County.
More information is in an article in this week's News€Telegraph. We hope you will plan to spend three hours Dec. 16 on a subject that is affecting the lives of your children and grandchildren. We have to do something about our problem; it is growing at a rapid rate, taxing the resources of our law enforcement agencies and judicial system. I encourage everyone who reads this letter to attend - this gives us a starting point to work together to help. If we do nothing, we run the risk of losing an entire generation of young people to this drug. Hope to see you Dec. 16. If you have any questions, please contact me at 865-5100.
